About YardCal
YardCal is a free set of material calculators for anyone planning a landscaping or paving project — homeowners, DIYers, landscapers and contractors. The goal is simple: help you order the right amount of gravel, sand or aggregate the first time, without costly leftovers or an annoying shortage halfway through the job.
How the estimates are calculated
Every calculator works from the same physics. We take the area you're covering, multiply it by the depth to get a volume, then convert that volume to weight using the density of the specific material you choose. Volume is shown in cubic yards, cubic feet and cubic meters; weight in US tons, metric tons and pounds; plus a bag count and an optional cost estimate. All the math runs instantly in your browser as you type.
Why the numbers are estimates
Real-world material density varies with moisture, compaction, stone size and supplier. We use widely accepted density figures for each material and let you enter a custom density when your supplier provides one, but the result is always a planning estimate. For anything load-bearing or budget-critical, confirm the final quantity with your supplier.
